We’re not “kidding” around! Artscape’s opening day – Friday, July 20th – is Youth Day! A variety of youth-focused programming – both performance and visual, indoor and outdoors – will be featured by Baltimore youth artists, makers, and performers throughout the day. Come support the creative and artistic talents of Baltimore’s youth!

Dance workshops including 30 minute rotations of Lindy Hop, Breakdancing, African Drumming, and African Dance

12:00pm - Believe in Music

1:00pm - Hippodrome Foundation presents “Freak Flag” Broadway Shrek Musical

2:00pm - The Y.A.T.T.A.S. (Young Artists Training to Achieve Success) Performing Arts Program, directed by Kenyatta Hardison, the Cardinal Shehan Performing Arts Director.  Youth will teach Inspirational Show Tunes with choreography and singing featuring excerpts from hits like “This Is Me” from the Greatest Show and “Dancing in the Streets” from Motown. Youth attendees will have the opportunity to perform to a track or acappella.

3:00pm - Contemporary Arts Inc. presents the SAX Camp Jazz Ensemble

4:00pm - Media Rhythm Institute presents the Channel Me Media Workshop

Teenscape presented by BOPA’s Youth Arts Council
Pearlstone Park (by Cathedral and Preston streets)

Featuring a special effects makeup tutorial and demonstration with Siobhan Beckett of the Nevermore Haunt and photo booth courtesy of Human Being Productions. Teenscape will also house an interactive chalkboard mural.

Experience youth performances, a poetry reading and slam, and workshops, all thoughtfully curated by The Lyric and for Baltimore’s youth.

Visual Arts Exhibition presented by C.H.A.M.P.S. (Changing Habits And Making Progressive Strides)
Gutman Historic Lobby at the Modell Performing Arts Center at The Lyric (140 W. Mount Royal Ave, Baltimore, MD 21201)

A recreational program for the State of Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS), C.H.A.M.P.S. is a rewards based incentives program for youth who are in DJS residential and detention program. Winners from C.H.A.M.P.S. art contest will have their artwork on display for festival-goers to experience. While these youth have no formal artistic training, they are often able to creatively express themselves through various media.
