Adult musicians from around the country join the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for a three-day Music Festival during Artscape.

Location: Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, 1212 Cathedral St

Performing on the Meyerhoff stage alongside their BSO mentors is the musical opportunity of a lifetime. This unique program offers community musicians, ages 16-80, the opportunity to improve their skills with guidance of professional symphony orchestra musicians.  You’ll enjoy performances by the BSO Academy Orchestra, Large Brass Ensemble, and Chamber Groups. Pop in for a quick sample or linger for the whole performance. You won’t be disappointed with what you see and hear! Children welcome.

6:00PM Handel’s Water Music As part of Baltimore’s annual Artscape festival, BSO musicians perform Handel’s Water Music in the lobby of the Meyerhoff.

Saturday, July 21

2:30PM Dunbar Alumni Jazz Band
3:30PM Dunbar High School Jazz Band
4:30PM BSO Academy Brass Band Concert This large group of adult brass musicians, under the direction of James Olin, BSO Principal Trombone (retired), will perform on the Meyerhoff Stage. Trumpets, French horns, trombones and tubas will perform classical and popular music from the Renaissance, Romantic Era, and the 20th Century. The glorious sound of a full brass ensemble will be sure to delight. (Meyerhoff Stage)
6:30PM BSO Academy Chamber Orchestra Concert Conducted by BSO concertmaster Jonathan Carney, along with BSO string section leaders, this group of adult musicians from around the country are joined by talented student musicians to perform two Classical masterpieces: Brahms Tragic Overture and Dvo?ák Symphony No. 9, “From the New World.” Hearing this music live in the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall will be an amazing experience, both for the audience and for those on stage -- a unique and informal atmosphere to experience a Symphony orchestra in one of the world’s greatest halls. Sunday, July 22

1:00PM BSO Academy Chamber Music Ensembles Concert BSO musicians perform in small ensembles with adult musicians from around the country. String quartets, woodwind quintets, and other small groups perform in a marathon of interesting musical works from all eras. Hear the individual instruments in a way that showcases their special qualities and characteristics. Informal atmosphere allows a quick listen or a full concert. (Meyerhoff Stage)
